 Getting Started!
Getting started is often the most difficult part of any
project. We at FlisKits are here to help take some of the mystery out of the whole
process! We can help you select a rocket, the motor, field requirements, activities
and challenges to help bring a most productive educational element to your classroom or
group.
With years of experience bringing rocketry and rocketry
related topics to all age groups from K-12 and university, in groups ranging from 2-3 kids
to over 200 in one setting, we've done it and can help you do the same.
Getting started is as simple as a single statement:
PLANNING!
and as complex as a single task:
PLANNING!
| You begin by doing your
planning. Be sure that you have covered all of the bases and that you know WHAT
you want to bring to your kids, WHY you want to bring this to them and
what YOU expect in return from your kids. Things that you will need in order to have a successful model rocketry
program with your class or group include (NOTE: Please review the Requirements section for more details): |

- Interested group of kids
- Model rocket kit selected then ordered
- Adequate building space
- Adequate time to build
- Required tools (enough for everyone in the group)
- Launch equipment (motors, igniters, recovery wadding, launch
pad and controller)
- Launch field with scheduled dates (rain dates too) and
permission to use
- Parent support
- Guest speakers (well, not required, but certainly a lot of
fun!)

A model rocket program can be a
very exciting activity for all involved. It can also be a frustrating experience if
the proper planning has not been done ahead of time. In addition to the basic list of things you need to plan, you should also
take this opportunity to decide if you want this model rocket activity to be a mechanism
with which to teach a related topic to your group. Topics can range from math &
science to space travel, history and even art. We encourage you to review the Curriculum page for more information and ideas. |
