CMASS January 15th, 2011
The first launch
of the year for CMASS, our Winter Follies is not for the faint
of heart! You need an iron constitution, a love of
rocketry and, well, being a little nuts doesn't hurt one
bit. Not one bit...
My main goal for
this launch was to test out two proto types that I have been
working on this past week. The first is a 3 stage saucer
type model, much like the Frick-n-Frack but with the extra
stage. The other project is an idea for a kit that I
will talk about another time :)
saucer, tentatively named Stage Coach, put in a picture
perfect flight. I was quite please with the flight as
the model was made with hand cut parts with few alignment jigs
available (the kit hasn't been designed yet...). The
next proto type will feature laser cut fins, alignment jigs
and all the bells and whistles. It should not only look
better than the first proto, but should fly better as well,
which will be amazing as the current proto looks and flies so
well as it is.
The number of
fliers we had out today surprised me considering the cold
temps (low 20's), but we had a full parking area! We
also had a fair number of new comers checking out the action
and flying as well.
All in all, a
simply great day of cold, dead calm flying!
