Boys & Girls Club - April
& May 2011
Due to the short
nature of our sessions and the small size of the classes, I
decided to combine the April and May photo albums into one.
Our April session
was still lightly attended, but we did have 4 kids for
advanced and 2 for beginner (including a new face!).
Since both classes
are fun at the same time, I have to keep in mind the rockets
that we will build, as well as the skills of the
students. For the advanced class we went with the Pheord
X150 red-neck pickup saucer. For the beginner
class we went with the Bull's
Eye, but with a twist. In addition to the
standard kit, I added a tube coupler and a 9" length of
BT-70 body tube so that the kids could make a Bull's Eye that
was twice as tall as a stock one.
The other oddity
with this session is that April has FIVE Friday's, yet we only
got TWO weeks in this session.... The first Friday was
actually a part of last months session. I was out of
town for the second one and the last Friday falls at the end
of Spring break.
With that in mind,
we decided to use the 2 weeks to BUILD our rockets with the
intent of flying them during the May session next month.
Our May session
had 5 kids, all building the micro Dead Ringer kit. We
had MORE than enough time to get the model built.
Unfortunately we only had 2 kids flying them at the launch and
only one model from the April build made it out to the
field. I will have to see about getting these other
models in the air with the next school year rocketry sessions!
