Merrimack, NH TARC Team

Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) is a nation wide contest for schools and youth groups where teams of budding rocket scientist design, build and fly a model rocket to meet the needs of a specific challenge.

This years (2009) challenge is to loft a raw hens egg, sideways, to an altitude of exactly 750 feet and keep it in the air (from liftoff to landing) for exactly 45 seconds.  Any altitude above or below 750 results in a penalty, any loft time above or below 45 seconds results in a penalty, with ZERO being a perfect score.

The photo album on the left shows the trials and tribulations of just trying to qualify for this event, with the 100 top qualifiers, nation wide, will meet in Virginia in May for the finals, each vying for $60,000 in scholarship money.

The Merrimack High School, in Merrimack, NH scored a 7.12 with an altitude of 744 feet and an average time of 44.44 seconds.  Simply incredible!  We should know by April 10th if they made the top 100, and expectations are high with a score like that.
