Finally a sunny day to fly! The day started out
perfect. When I showed up (about 15 min early) it was cool, sunny and a dead calm.
By the time the field got all set up it had become quite windy and I effectively
grounded most of my fleet which was frustrating as I had several proto-types I wanted to
test out.
The place was packed too. We had two youth groups show
up with their rockets. This day saw a lot of Thing-a-ma-Jig and Triskelion launches,
that's for sure! It was great to see mom's and dad's there with their son's and
daughter's, all flying rockets!
One of the youth groups to show up was a group of folks from
the Discovery Museum class that was held in Acton Mass and presented by Jim Salem and
myself. Jim invited me to join the Discovery Museum rocketry event 3 years ago and
we have both had a ball teaching these classes. It is clear that the students (young
and old) have equally enjoyed it as well. Thank you Jim for involving me with this
program!
As the day wore on, the winds seem to calm down a bit and I
wound up getting everything flown that I wanted to fly. The most thrilling for me was our
proto Rose-A-Roc which will be a new kit in 2007. Perfect boost and a perfect
deployment of her helicopter blades with a duration of over a minute on an A motor (not
bad for something that was (literally) slapped together the night before!
It was also wonderful talking to all the parent and their
children and seeing the excitement that rocketry has brought to their lives. Yep, we
had a good day. This photo album captures but a small part of it all. Keep
track of the schedule at http://www.cmass.org/ to see
when and where we're flying next!
Enjoy!
